2021 Summer Orchestra Course

Live rehearsals and concert performances with LCCE are making a comeback in a brand new form this summer! Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, we have opted for a hybrid approach of both online and offline rehearsals. There will be two orchestras, a senior orchestra with all standard instruments and a junior string ensemble. We also plan to host a live concert with or without an audience, subject to the government’s official guidelines at the time.

Both the Senior and Junior orchestras will rehearse and perform 2-3 pieces respectively, chosen from Chinese and western repertoire.

Senior course repertoire:

Weber: Turandot Overture
Mendelssohn: Hebrides Overture
Schubert: Movement 3 – Symphony no. 6*

Each of the two orchestras will have four days of online rehearsal and two full days of offline rehearsal. The online tutorial includes one hour of technical training and one hour of repertoire practice with our sectional tutors. The participants are required to practice to a reasonable playing standard during the online rehearsal week to be ready for the offline rehearsal. At the face to face rehearsal, players will work with the conductors Scott Wilson (Senior) and Yushan Li (Junior) on the repertoire.

The fee for this rehearsal and concert is £120/participant (assisted places available). Please click the button below to register.

The plan above is subject to the latest COVID guidelines in August. We will also provide requirements of safety measures in relation to COVID in due course.

In view of the current COVID situation in the UK, and to make sure that we will all be able to work responsibly in a safe environment, LCCE are setting out the following rules in relation to our offline rehearsals and performance. By the time the offline rehearsals take place, the UK government is likely to have removed some of the requirements as at early July. However, LCCE have opted to take a more rigorous approach to ensure everyone’s safety as much as we can. All participants should read this carefully and must agree to this by signing at the end of the registration form.

Registration:

  1. Parents or guardians shall administer a lateral flow test on the participants 24 hours before entering the premise with a negative result.
  2. All participants shall complete a self-clarification form on arrival to ensure that any quarantine rules set out by the government are not being broken, and no overseas travel has taken place 2 weeks prior to the course.
  3. Registration will be carried outside the rehearsal premise. Only participants will be allowed to enter the premise. Parents or guardians are expected to leave the premise once the registration is finished and come back to pick up the participants in the afternoon when the rehearsal finishes.
  4. No vulnerable group will be allowed on site.

Rehearsals:

  1. All participants will need to wear a facemask indoors during the rehearsal (unless waived due to a medical condition). For wind instrument players, facemasks can be taken off during the rehearsal but need to be put back on during the breaks.
  2. All participants must bring their own music stand, sheet music, and pencils. No sharing is allowed during the rehearsal.
  3. Participants will need to be separated by 1.5 metre distance during the rehearsal. Seats will be pre-arranged and shall not be moved by participants.
  4. Used tissues must be placed immediately in bins which will be double bagged and emptied regularly throughout the day.
  5. Hand sanitiser will be available at the registration and rehearsal rooms. Participants are encouraged to use it regularly during the rehearsal.
  6. Participants are to bring their own food and drink. During the break and lunch time, participants will not be allowed to mix freely.
